Mercy Malaysia Annual Fundraising Dinner 2006

Last night was Mercy Malaysia's Annual Fundraising Dinner. Mummy, Halimy, Bobby, his wife, Ellen, Nazrin, Jennifer, Lee John, his girlfriend and I filled a table purchased by Selatan this year. *if it wasn't for my dear Auntie Jim, knowing me, I would have avoided such events due to the fact that its dress code being formal hehehehe*

Dressing up for the event, I finally got to wear my white kaftan looking baju kurung which was made for last two year's Eid *LOL*. Put on some earrings, 1 minute make up and heels *all of which I dread wearing for any purpose* and off we went to KLCC Convention Center *6:45pm*.

Arriving the reception *7:45pm*, mummy didn't bring the tickets, but all she had to do was say that she's Auntie Jim's sister and we know our table number which was 44. She also mentioned to the reception saying that the table is for her family members and that any mat salleh looking chap or his indian looking girlfriend or any chinese looking person were to mention the family name, just direct them to the table. *giggles*

Standing outside the corridor while we wait for the rest of the group to arrive, mummy mingled while Halimy and I were sekodeng-ing teenage people down below outside at the KLCC Park *giggles*. Ellaine was there as she was one of Mercy's volunteers so she was busy doing things.

As we made our way to our seats *8:10pm*, the band was playing while everybody else were busy chattering, me uncomfortable in my attire was dying to get to my seat. Each of us were given Mercy's coffee table book of A Time to Heal *a tribute to the disaster of the 2005 Tsunami Victims, which can be purchased at MPH for those of you who'd like a copy hehe* and a copy of their Annual Report.

Almost freezing in my attire, the emcee for the event Adibah Noor introduced herself and announced the arrival of the Sultan of Perak *patron of Mercy* which in protocol required us to stand while we greet his arrival *8.30pm*. Escorted by Auntie Jim, the Sultan of Perak made his entry and upon his arrival near our table, Auntie Jim had to introduce him to her family *=P* and of course poor Lee John had been personally introduced as a nephew *Muah AHaH aHa haH aHa hAa* Lee John with his face flustered and not knowing what to do protocol and all, shook hands with the Sultan *oh why didn't I take out my camera at this time... it was hilarious!!!*

As everybody took their seat following the Sultan of Perak, the vice president of Mercy led us to a short prayer and words of thanks to the All Mighty which was in English so that everybody could relate, Auntie Jim gave her as usual touching and moving speech, a couple of mock cheques were presented to Mercy one from Accenture and one from of all people APIIT Smart School *=P*

Adibah Noor finally got to saying that dinner is served *9:15pm* *which I was hoping it would be soon at the time hehehe... hey... I was starving ok?* and we were entertained by a number of performances.

First up were a group of adorable girls with their royal court dance *appropriate since there were royalty present hehe* They were probably aged ranging from 7 to 12. All graceful with their traditional costumes and one of them forgot her steps *giggling* How adorable.

Then Adibah Noor introduced them as handsome group of guys all still single and available *=P*, VE. They started singing Rozana *an old hit I think they remade to be abit more hip-hoppish* and my favourite song of theirs Ayu *siiiiighh...* Boy can they sing live! Mummy started saying that they were Backstreet Boys wannabes and I had to tell her that they are quite famous here. *well famous enough for me to know of them hahaha... yeah... I don't really know Malaysian artists unless they are exceptionally good*

Next was a sensational performance by siblings Genervie and Arthur Kam, Arthur on percussions and Genervie on her electric violin. Young Arthur started out playing while accompanied by some hit songs which I found to be really entertaining. He looked like he was in his own world as he played *giggling probably his way of dealing with performing in front of audiences or just how these geniuses are at work* Sweet Genervie then made her appearance and played pop songs with her electric violin accompanied by background music and of course her brother. They were really talented I must say. *hmm I wonder if you all are related to Operafest Mrs. Kam? hehe*

To our surprise, the next performance was by Yasmin Ahmad! She's a talented local film maker who wrote "Sepet" and its sequel "Gubra" but last night, she sang us a number called "Hujan" a song written by her parents so she said. She can sing too!

Of course, no Mercy Annual dinner is complete without Adibah Noor herself gracing us with her talented singing. I remembered the last time I went for this dinner a few years back, the Sultan of Perak asked her for an encore when Siti Nurhaliza was one of the performers that night. I wonder how Siti felt when the Sultan asked for Adibah Noor instead of her *giggling*.

The performances were concluded by a live band, and at this time we were all filled with good food and were being served our desserts.

We were then introduced to a Dr. Ang Swee Chai, she was born in Penang, raised and grew up in Singapore and went off to study and work in the UK. While working there, the war in Palestine got to her attention. She was once all for Israel and was anti-Arabs until that day. She just couldn't understand how people could do such things and was given the opportunity to help. Resigning from being the first female Orthopedic Surgeon in where she was working, she went off to Beirut. She shared her experiences with us accompanied by photos *thank God we finished eating already*. Her 30 minute talk left us in awe and feelings of how proud we are to be an independant country and how proud we are of the people of our country giving aid and care while spreading love to those who in the eyes of others as terrorists. Those of you who still think blindly, I guess you will only understand when you see things as these people have.

It was the end of the event *10.15pm* and the Sultan of Perak made his royal exit. Auntie Jim asked us to wait awhile as she escorted his Majesty out. Of course, most of us made our way to the balcony *hehehe*. Took some photos, took a family photo, and said our goodbyes.

Arrived home finally a little after midnight. In super lightning speed got out of my really uncomfortable attire, washed the nonsense off my face and sought my bed. THE END... *LOL*

To my dearest Auntie Jim, although we have our differences in opinion on certain things, and of course every family have their own quarrels, and even though I do practise "masuk telinga kanan keluar telinga kiri" when we do have these conflicts or confrontations *hehehe*... I am still really so proud of you. I was proud to be your niece when we were listening to the Phantom of the Opera in your car when I was 8, I was proud to be helping out testing other women's urine in your clinic when I was 16, I was proud of you when you started out Mercy Malaysia, and I will always be proud to be your niece. *hehehe... sat lagi kena marah lah you kalau swing you pun macam the rest of the Mahmoods...* *evil grin*

I will add photos later... now too lazy hehehe...
